Operation Tequila - El Potrero Chico 2018

Updated: Sep 29, 2018

I actually couldn't climb at all this trip. I found out that I tore the labrum in my shoulder and so in December, 2017 I had surgery to fix it. This time, Dad and I ran base camp for a bunch of my crusher friends.

So why would I drive my car all the way to Mexico from Virginia if I couldn't even climb? I hate to keep using "stoke" as the answer and for people who know me they might even roll their eyes. But seriously, its pretty easy to be excited about road trips when you know have a set of crusher pals who hang it out there and have a blast no matter where in the world you are.

A second piece of motivation for me was the prospect of taking my Dad, who while having traveled all over the world for work being a bad ass scientist guy hadn't been on a trip quite like this before.

There were the usual tire-whacking shenanigans but more importantly an incredible amount of sending!

With a large group, I think we had 4 teams, it was so cool to see everyone crushing their objectives. We had a 100% success rate (3/3) on the 2,300 foot Timewave Zero which is pretty well known I think for being one of the tallest sport climbs in the world. Every day something big was going down whether it was hard single pitches or long epics.

Check out their strong work and various other photos below from our sending and tequila filled trip:

Bri making my legs hurt on El Balota (5.12a)

Graham questing up behind Gavin in the clouds on Supernova (5.11a)

Jon and Nathan following on Yankee Clipper (5.12a)

Philip and Gavin getting ready to crush something.

Jon showing off the desert handstand.

Rest day walk proved the view from the other side of the valley to be just as rad.
